Among Us has revolutionized online multiplayer gaming, offering a unique blend of social deduction, strategy, and thrilling suspense. Developed by InnerSloth, this highly addictive game challenges players to complete tasks while rooting out hidden Impostors or, conversely, expertly sabotaging the crew’s efforts without being discovered. Whether you’re a seasoned player or new to the world of space-faring intrigue, this comprehensive guide will equip you with the knowledge to master your role and emerge victorious.
What is Among Us?
Among Us is an online multiplayer social deduction game set in space or a sky-based facility. A group of players, ranging from 4 to 15, are assigned roles: most are “Crewmates,” tasked with completing various maintenance jobs around the map, while a select few (1 to 3, depending on game settings) are “Impostors.”
The core gameplay revolves around these opposing objectives. Crewmates must complete all their assigned tasks or identify and eject all Impostors to win. Impostors, on the other hand, aim to covertly kill enough Crewmates until their numbers equal the remaining Crewmates, or trigger critical sabotages that are not fixed in time. The psychological warfare, bluffs, and keen observation are what make Among Us so captivating.
How to Play: Roles and Objectives
To truly excel in Among Us, understanding the distinct roles and their objectives is paramount.
Crewmate Gameplay: Vigilance and Task Completion
As a Crewmate, your primary goal is to ensure the ship’s successful operation and expose the Impostors among you.
- Complete Tasks: Scattered across the map are various mini-games representing “tasks” like wiring, downloading data, or diverting power. These are crucial for winning the game as a Crewmate. Pay attention to your task list and diligently complete them. Some tasks, known as “visual tasks” (e.g., MedBay Scan, Trash, Asteroids), offer visual confirmation of completion, which can be used to “clear” yourself or another player.
- Observe and Report: Be observant of other players’ movements and behaviors. Did someone just come out of a vent? Were they lingering suspiciously near a body? If you find a dead body, immediately “Report” it. This initiates an emergency meeting.
- Participate in Discussions and Voting: During emergency meetings (called by reporting a body or pressing the emergency button), players discuss who they suspect. Share your observations, provide alibis, and listen carefully to others. Strategic communication is key. After a discussion period, players vote to eject someone. A player with the most votes is ejected, and their role (Crewmate or Impostor) is revealed. Vote wisely, as ejecting an innocent Crewmate helps the Impostors win.
- Fix Sabotages: Impostors can sabotage critical systems like lights, oxygen, or communications. Crewmates must quickly react and fix these sabotages. Failure to do so can lead to an Impostor victory.
